Roatan Bay Island

Summary: Roatan Bay Island isn't your typical over-the-top Caribbean vacation. It’s an island lover's paradise with amazing beaches, reefs and lush mountains. Roatan Bay Island is an unforgettable experience.

Roatan Bay Island is one of the jewels of Honduras. It’s just a two hour flight from the southern edges of the US to Roatan Bay – but when you get to Roatan, you’ll know you’ve arrived. Turquoise waters of the Caribbean, powder white sands and lush mountains make Roatan Bay Island the top destination in Honduras.

Where is Roatan Bay Island?
Roatan Bay Island is off the coast of Honduras in the Caribbean. The island sits due north of Honduras and east of Belize. Roatan is one of a number of islands in the Roatan Bay and stretches for nearly 40 miles. The six islands, called the Bay Islands are grouped together with Roatan, the largest and most developed.

What’s Roatan Bay Island Look Like?
It depends who you ask – and what their interests are. To some, Roatan Bay Island is beautiful blue water and pristine beaches. There are three main beaches that attract most visitors to Roatan: Palmetto, West and Camp Bay. Roatan is a true beach lover’s paradise.

To others, Roatan Bay Island looks like the spectacular coral reefs that act like a string of pearls around the island. These reefs offer amazing diving and snorkeling. You can find everything from deep dives hovering over a bottomless canyon to an exhilarating shallow dive with reef sharks.

Still, to another set of visitors, Roatan Bay Island looks like lush hills perfect for hiking, horseback riding and biking. The island’s interior is dotted with full scale plantations that offer a spectacular back drop.

Roatan Bay Island is considered one of the least developed Caribbean Islands without sacrificing the amenities that many tourists are used to. Offering hotels, resorts, restaurants and nightlife without the giant condo high-rises running along the coast like so many other islands.

Where to stay on Roatan Bay Island.
One of our favorites is Blue Bahia Resort. Not your typical Roatan hotel, this resort offers a small cabana style option.
